Special Presentation: Tribal Connections to Arches National Park

Special Presentation: Tribal Connections to Arches National Park

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 17, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Arches National Park will offer a special presentation to share findings from the recently completed Ethnographic Overview and Assessment of Arches National Park.

The presentation will begin at 7:00 pm on Saturday, Aug. 26, at the park's visitor center.

Dr. Richard Stoffle from the University of Arizona’s Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology will conduct the presentation.

As part of the study, over a half-dozen tribes were invited to identify, evaluate, and make recommendations about plants, animals, artifacts, and topographic features in the park. Participating tribes shared traditional ecological knowledge, stories of what park features represent to them, and how park resources continue to play a role in their ongoing cultural practices.

Everyone is invited to attend this special presentation made possible in part by the Friends of Arches and Canyonlands Parks.
