Ranger Hike: Starry, Starry Night, Sept 9
Join rangers and learn about the dark skies of Lake Mead National Recreation Area at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9. Explore the Historic Railroad Trail tunnels, stroll along the old railroad bed and discover the planets above. Don’t forget a flashlight. This is an easy three-mile round trip hike. Ranger Chat: The Tortoise Among Us, Sept 16
Join a ranger at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Lake Mead Visitor Center to learn about the threatened Desert Tortoise. For more information, call 702-293-8990.
Camping 101 at Recovery in the Park, Sept 16
Join rangers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 16 at the annual Recovery in the Park celebration at Community Park in Bullhead City, Arizona. This event coincides with National Recovery Month and is a time to celebrate gains made by those in recovery from an array of challenges. Rangers will be on site with maps, information and camping gear to help community members learn how to set up tents and plan camping trips to their local public lands. National Public Lands Day - Lake Mead, Sept 30
Lake Mead National Recreation Area is hosting a National Public Lands Day litter cleanup that will be focused on an area of the park that was heavily used during the summer by visitors. Volunteers are needed to lend a hand to clean up the park. National Public Lands Day vouchers will be provided to the first 100 volunteers who register. National Public Lands Day - Lake Mohave, Sept 30
Join rangers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 30 at Pyramid Canyon, Colorado River Heritage Greenway Park and Trails, in Laughlin, Nevada, for hikes, arts and crafts, fishing, and a treasure hunt. A ranger-led interactive talk about the local history of the Colorado River and the construction of the Davis Dam will begin at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. For more information, call 702-293-8970.
BBSC Las Vegas Triathlon, Sept 30
Around 900 triathletes will race though Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sept. 30 for the BBSC Las Vegas Triathlon. The race has four triathlon distance options available, Olympic, sprint, duathlon and half distance. The swim portion of the race takes place at Boulder Beach. Then, athletes will bike along Lakeshore Road and Northshore Road before transitioning onto the River Mountains Loop Trail at the Historic Railroad Trail parking lot. Visitors to Lake Mead may experience delays. During the race, the bicycle course in Lake Mead National Recreation Area is an open road. Please use caution when driving alongside cyclists. Share the road, and do not pass in no passing zones. Cyclists are reminded that they must bike in single file on the roadways. Get Outdoors Nevada Day, Oct 7
Join rangers at Cornerstone Park in Henderson, Nevada, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7 for Get Outdoors Nevada Day to learn about a variety of ways to have fun in the sun in Southern Nevada. There will be Camping 101, Leave No Trace 101 and Junior Ranger activities, Lake Mead National Recreation Area vechicles and vessels, kayaking, a rock-climbing wall, and so much more. Tour the exhibits, and participate in family-friendly outdoor activities throughout the day. Free America the Beautiful annual passes will be distributed to 4th graders as part of the Every Kid in a Park national program.
