At the conclusion of a two-day trial, a jury found Damari Roulhac, age 26, guilty of assaulting and fleeing from a US Park Ranger in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The charges arose from a hit-and-run incident that took place in the park on July 1, 2016.
Evidence presented during the trial showed that US Park Rangers patrolling the park that evening encountered Roulhac and ordered him to stop his vehicle. Roulhac refused to obey the federal law enforcement officers’ instructions. Instead, Roulhac accelerated his vehicle towards one of the rangers, causing him to jump out of the way. Roulhac then resisted the officers' attempts to detain him and accelerated again, striking one of the rangers with his vehicle while fleeing the scene of the incident.
Though Roulhac initially evaded apprehension, US Park Rangers located and took him into custody days later at the Pike County Courthouse, where he was sentenced for an unrelated DUI conviction.
The case was investigated by US Park Rangers of the National Park Service, and was prosecuted by the US Attorney's Office - Middle District of Pennsylvania. Sentencing will take place at a later date.
