Fatality In Lumpy Ridge Area Of Rocky Mountain National Park

This morning, recovery efforts took place for a man who fell approximately 50 feet yesterday afternoon Sept. 30, while technical climbing on the Batman and Robin route on Batman Pinnacle in the Lumpy Ridge area of Rocky Mountain National Park. Bystanders performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) until rangers arrived. They performed additional Advanced Life Support and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has been identified as Henry Gholz (66) from Fort Collins, Colorado. As is standard for all fatalities that occur in Rocky Mountain National Park, an investigation is ongoing. The man’s body was recovered by a long line helicopter operation this morning at 8:45 a.m. and transferred to the Larimer County Coroner’s Office.
