"Spooky Spectacular" at Steamtown NHS

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Oct. 18, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

SCRANTON, Pa. - Calling all ghosts and goblins, witches and wizards, pirates and princesses! On Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, Oct. 29, Steamtown National Historic Site will host “Spooky Spectacular" special Halloween events at the park!

On Saturday, Oct. 28, family-friendly activities are planned for children, most suitably for ages 6-15. Children of all ages, though, are invited to visit in Halloween finery. Listen to spooky stories and skeletal tales, and then build your own skeleton at the park’s theater. Trick-or-treaters can also follow clues to find “ghoulish goody stations" (while supplies last) throughout the park during a “Trick-or-Train Treasure Hunt." Visitors can also take the “spooked out" “Scranton Limited" short train rides, $5.00 per person, all ages 6 and older.

On Sunday, Oct. 29, along with similar scary in-park events and the “spooked out" “Nay Aug Limited" short train rides, a special diesel-powered “Ghoulsboro Express" excursion - to Gouldsboro, Pennsylvania - departs at 11:00 a.m., returning to the park at 3:00 p.m. Dress in costume, and join boys and ghouls of all ages for this “haunted" fun ride. Light refreshments will be available for sale at the station stop. Ticket pricing is $34 for adults, ages 16-61, $29 for seniors, ages 62 and older, $22 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket.

The park no longer charges an entrance fee and the “spooked out" short train rides are first-come, first-served, but reservations for the “Ghoulsboro Express" are strongly recommended (same day walk-up tickets may be available, but internet and email sales are not). For credit/debit card reservations, phone 570-340-5204, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. daily.

Located in downtown Scranton, Pa., Steamtown NHS is open daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. From I-81 follow exit 185 (Central Scranton Expressway); then, follow the brown and white signs to the park entrance at Lackawanna and Cliff Avenues (GPS: N 41.41, W 75.67).
