Seneca Falls, NY -Women’s Rights National Historical Park is proud to announce a premiere quilt exhibit from artist Alice Gant. Beginning on May 4, 2018, visitors to the park will be able to view “Peaceful Innovators," featuring several of Gant’s personal heroes from history. Gant has said that, “Banners banish blues," and in this new exhibit, visitors will have the chance to view the expression of those words more fully. “Peaceful Innovators" can be viewed during the months of May and June. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
Many of Gant’s heroes are not so well known. In creating the quilts for this exhibit, Gant researched her subjects, and stitched what she felt were special qualities of those heroes into banners of quilted artwork. This is truly narrative art! Gant’s heroes featured in this exhibit are Edward Hicks, Frederick Law Olmsted, Lucretia Mott, Queen Catharine Montour, Mother Goose, and more. Gant’s quilts feature a technique that she invented called neo-reverse appliqué, which enables her to draw with cloth.
