INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: On Saturday, May 19, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, both formal and non-formal educators who work with students in grades K - 12 are invited to join in this exciting workshop focusing on birds and bird conservation. Two exciting opportunities will be rolled into one during this event, which will be held at the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education, in Miller, Indiana. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s “BirdSleuth" program will share innovative K-12 resources that build science skills while inspiring young people to connect to local habitats, explore biodiversity, and engage in citizen-science projects. In addition, participants will explore a variety of activities for upper elementary and middle school students from the “Flying Wild" program.
Discover creative new activities to teach about birds, their migration and actions people can take to help birds and their habitats, including participation in citizen science. All participants completing the full workshop will receive Flying Wild: An Educators Guide to Celebrating Birds, a set of “Feathered Friends" activities, and a free bird feeder.
There is a $30 fee for the workshop, which covers educational materials and lunch. Indiana teachers can receive Professional Growth Points and Illinois Teachers can receive CPDUs for attending the workshop. The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is one of 417 units of the National Park System ranging from Yellowstone to the Statue of Liberty.
