Cadillac Mountain Summit Road Closes May 1 to 3

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 27, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

BAR HARBOR, MAINE - Starting on Tuesday May 1 the Cadillac Mountain Summit Road will be closed to all traffic, including bicyclists, until Thursday May 3 to complete the paving of parking areas.

“We appreciate the cooperation and patience of visitors as we complete this important project begun last fall," said Superintendent Kevin Schneider. “The new paving will serve thousands of visitors to the Cadillac summit for years to come."

Paving of the Cadillac summit parking areas was not completed last fall, which made work in the spring necessary, pending warmer temperatures needed for effective paving. Summit Construction is subcontracted with The Lane Construction Corporation to complete the paving project, which is funded through the Federal Highway Administration’s Federal Lands Transportation Program. The closure is required to allow the contractor to safely and efficiently complete the paving.

Visitors hiking may still access the summit but should pay attention to large equipment in the parking lot area.
