Join K - 12 educators from around the region to explore and share strategies and approaches for implementing culturally responsive, place-based education in the classroom!
What is place-based education? Place-based education synthesizes local heritage, culture, landscapes, opportunities and experiences, as a foundation for the study of language arts, math, social studies, science and other subjects across the curriculum. Place-based education often extends beyond the classroom through participation in community and/or school service projects.
Workshop Itinerary:
August 6: Travel from Nome to Serpentine Hot Springs and workshop begins
August 7 - 9: Explore, collaborate, learn, hike, soak, and more!
August 10: Closing activities and travel from Serpentine Hot Springs to Nome
Travel from Nome to Serpentine Hot Springs, food, and lodging will be provided for the workshop. Lodging in Nome (if needed) for August 5th and August 10th, will be provided upon request.
This workshop is available to educators from the Bering Strait region.

Participants may choose to earn professional development credits through the University of Alaska Anchorage. Participants are responsible for the cost of the credits
