National Trails Day at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 24, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Fort Oglethorpe, GA: On Saturday, June 2, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and the American Hiking Society are seeking volunteers for National Trails Day. At 9 am, all volunteers are invited to meet in the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center (Point Park) parking lot. National Park Service staff and other volunteers will work on the Bluff Trail starting at the stairs leading into Point Park and will work toward Sunset Rock replacing trail signs, cleaning graffiti, and clearing honeysuckle. Volunteers can expect to return to the visitor center at approximately noon. All tools and supplies will be provided to volunteers. If you choose to volunteer, the park requests you wear long pants and sturdy, close-toed shoes, no flip-flops.

Each year, on the first Saturday in June, the American Hiking Society and the trails community invite Americans of all ages and abilities to find their own adventure and discover their unique story at one of the thousands of events hosted throughout the country. We hope to see you for National Trails Day on Lookout Mountain. If you plan to volunteer, please RSVP by emailing Volunteer Coordinator Will Wilson at will_wilson@nps.gov or by calling 423-867-6940 x137.
