Ranger Chat: Water Safety and You, July 1 and 2
Join a ranger at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 1 and 2 to learn how to be safe this summer at the lake while wearing a life jacket. For more information, call 702-293-8990.
Ranger Program: Ready, Set, Wear It, July 7
Join rangers from 1-3 p.m. July 7 in a world-wide record attempt for the most life jackets worn as part of a National Safe Boating campaign. Rangers will be at the Cottonwood Cove Marina with a variety of life jackets and family friendly activities. Come take a photo while wearing a life jacket and learn safe boating tips. Join a ranger at the Searchlight Library in Nevada from 2-3 p.m. July 10 and enjoy a variety of Junior Ranger Underwater Explorer activities for children. Join a ranger at the Mohave County Library in Bullhead City, Arizona, from noon to 2 p.m. July 14 and enjoy a variety of Junior Ranger Underwater Explorer activities for children. Activities will include water safety, learning about underwater animals, fishing and more. Join a ranger at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 18 to learn how human caused sound can alter nature’s soundscape. Hands-on activities and a listening kiosk with videos will be available throughout the day. For more information, call 702-293-8990.
B-29 Superfortress Bomber Film Debut and Panel Discussion, July 21
On July 21, 1948, a B-29 Superfortress Bomber crashed into Lake Mead and has remained underwater for 70 years under the custodianship of the National Park Service. A panel of experts will be at the Lake Mead Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to noon July 21 to discuss why this aircraft and its mission were so significant. Guests will also be able to view underwater footage of the aircraft and some of the artifacts that have been brought to the surface. Space is limited for this commemorative event.
