Saguaro National Park Improving the Desert Discovery Trail

July 11th through September 7th

TUCSON, AZ - Saguaro National Park trail crews began improvements on the Desert Discovery Trail on Wednesday, July11th. The project, which is located in Saguaro National Park’s Tucson Mountain District (West), will bring the Desert Discovery Trail up to ADA standards.

The Desert Discovery Trail will be closed to the public while these improvements are being completed. Once the improvement project is completed, the trail will be accessible to more of our visitors with limited mobility.

This improvement project is made possible by your fee dollars! Fees collected at Saguaro National Park stay in the park to improve visitor services and facilities. Revenue from entrance fees enable the park to address ongoing park-wide trail maintenance. This maintenance includes work just finished resurfacing the Desert Ecology Trail at the Rincon Mountain District (East), as well as this work on the Desert Discovery Trail so that they remain accessible.

The scope of the project will include some use of heavy equipment, so we ask that park visitors please pardon our dust and noise while we are under construction. Work on this project is expected to be completed by September 7th.
