Park to Close for Tropical Storm Gordon

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 4, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Vicksburg, MS: Vicksburg National Military Park will be closed to all public use beginning Wednesday September 5th in anticipation of the arrival of Tropical Storm Gordon. The park will remain closed through the duration of the storm. Once the storm passes, park employees will assess any damage to the park and provide updates on reopening to public use.

This closure includes the visitor center, USS Cairo Museum, Vicksburg National Cemetery, and the entirety of the Tour Road to both vehicles and pedestrian traffic. Please obey all posted closures. Even once the storm passes, safety threats may remain in the form of downed trees, damaged limbs, and possible erosion impacts.

Updates will be available on the park’s website at www.nps.gov/vick and on the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/vicksburgNPS.
