THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- The National Park Service will host a free classic car show and drive-in movie featuring ‘80s comedy “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure." The event, which will be held at historic Paramount Ranch, will take place on Saturday, September 29 from 4:00 to 9 p.m.
“Last year, our first, was a success, but I would love to add more cars to this year’s show," said event organizer Ranger Ryan Stead. “The car show is not a competition, but an opportunity for folks to display their rolling history and art. All makes and models of vehicles are invited to participate. This includes classics, art cars, lowriders, muscle cars, rat roads and anything else that an owner doesn't mind getting a little bit of dust on. The car show will be held in Western Town so dust is inevitable."
Car show participants will receive premium parking for the drive-in movie. The event will also feature a BBQ and yogurt food truck, a fun kids zone and a car culture presentation.
A walking tour will highlight vehicles that have appeared in Paramount Ranch films. While Paramount Ranch operated as movie ranch, it was also home to a short-lived racetrack in the 1950s. The movie The Devil’s Hairpin was filmed on the course, which closed down after three fatalities within 18 months from its opening.
The event’s schedule includes a number of activities:
* 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.: Classic cars displayed in Western Town
* 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.: Kids activities (Hot Wheels races, a mini-Delorean obstacle course, and more)
* 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.: Car culture and history tours
* 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.: Showing of “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure"
Attendees can choose to watch the film from their vehicles or they can bring a chair to sit in a designated seating area.
