Jack Gladstone is a citizen of the Blackfeet Indian Nation who illustrates Western and Native American culture through music, poetry, and spoken word. Gladstone is considered one of the leading singers and storytellers in Native American culture.
Star City Kochavim is the house band at Congregation B'nai Jeshurun South Street Temple in Lincoln. They will perform traditional klezmer music, brought to the United States by European Jewish immigrants.
Bill Behmer, a Humanities Nebraska Speaker, will perform traditional Irish and British Isles songs. Many of these songs have inspired different types of modern American music.
The Kenny Janak Orchestra is a seven-piece group that performs old-time polkas and waltzes as well as classic Czech and German standards.
“Visitors will experience the musical traditions of those cultures that were impacted by the Homestead Act of 1862 during the Sunday of Homestead Days, both the Native American cultures as well as those European cultures that came to America because of the Homestead Act," stated Superintendent Mark Engler.
This year’s stage presentations feature music and dance from the various cultures impacted by the Homestead Act. Each of the three days will have a different lineup of performers.
During each of the three days, traditional craft demonstrators will showcase their skills from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Craft demonstrations include spinning, weaving, quilting, blacksmithing, dutch oven cooking, and much more.
