Shackleford Banks Dock and Restrooms Reopen

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 2, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Harkers Island, NC - Cape Lookout National Seashore is pleased to announce that the dock on Shackleford Banks has reopened to ferry traffic for the first time since Hurricane Florence. The dock is complete; however, the park is still waiting on ladders for it. The dock was rebuilt with concrete panels to sustain storms, prevent future damage and reduce annual maintenance costs. It was also raised 10 inches from its original height to accommodate a rise in mean high tide which has occurred since the dock was first constructed.

Adjacent to the dock are public use restrooms which also have reopened to the public for the first time since Hurricane Florence. For any additional information, please contact the park directly at (252) 728-2250 ext. 8950.
