HOUGHTON, MICH. - On Aug. 15, 2019 join Isle Royale National Park and the Portage Lake District Library for Ranger III Family Day. Families may participate in any or all of the following scheduled events:
10:15 am: Ranger III Kids Program at the Portage Lake District Library
Join Ranger Derrick Jaeger at the Portage Lake District Library as he explores the Ranger III and its more than 5,000 Lake Superior Crossings. No advanced reservations needed. For families and kids ages 5-12. The program will last about 30 minutes.
11:15 am: Ranger III Tour
Park rangers will provide a 30 minute tour of Ranger III. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for some narrow corridors and stairways. Meet in front of the Houghton Visitor Center by 11:10 am.
12:30 pm: Free Ranger III Cruise onto Portage Lake, Reservations Required
For families with kids 15 or younger, take a free, 30-60 minute cruise aboard Ranger III onto Portage Lake. To make the required reservations, call the Portage Lake District Library at (906) 482-4570. Reservations will only be accepted through August 13. On Thursday Aug. 15, check in at the Houghton Visitor Center by 11:45 am for ticket pick-up. Light jackets are recommended.
