FARMINGTON, Pa., America’s National Park System includes 419 units, including the 61 national parks as designated by Congress, along with national monuments, national historic sites, national historical parks, national memorials, national preserves, national recreation areas, national rivers and national wild and scenic rivers and riverways, national battlefields and national battlefield parks, and 19 other designations. Very few of us have the time or ability visit all of these areas that put together, preserve and interpret our national culture.
David Kroese is one person who has visited all the units of the National Park System, and he will make a return visit to Fort Necessity with pins, mementos, and stories that he has collected along the way. He has assembled the pins into an exhibit and the stories into a book. His exhibit of Centennial Pins and Find Your Park lapel pins will be available be on display through the winter. Krouse will tell the story behind his narrative, The Centennial: A Journey Through America's National Park System. The program will be held in Visitor Center at Fort Necessity National Battlefield at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 23.
Also returning to Fort Necessity this week will be Edgar Allen Poe, portrayed by Bob Velella. There are a limited number of tickets still available for the performance at the Fort Necessity Visitor Center at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26. Tickets may be purchased electronically through Eventbrite. Reservations may not be made without a ticket purchase. As seating is limited, it is recommended to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets will be available online through 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, or as long as space is available. The recommended age for these programs is 13 and up. Tickets are non-refundable.
