Fort Pulaski to Commemorate Veterans Day With a Weekend of Living History

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 1, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

SAVANNAH, GA - Fort Pulaski National Monument will honor our nation’s veterans with a special living history weekend November 9th and 10th. Living historians from the 48th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment will recreate many aspects of daily life inside the Civil War-era post. A variety of programs will be offered giving visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of the American Civil War.

The 48th New York Infantry was stationed at Fort Pulaski from June 1862 through June 1863. During their year-long stay, the unit remained vigilant, always prepared for a Confederate counter attack, an attack that never materialized. Their stay was documented in a series of early photographs that are displayed in exhibits throughout the park.
