Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve invites you to “Thunder on the River," on November 9 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm for a living history event with interactive historic games, living historians, cannon firings and musket demonstrations. The event will provide an opportunity for visitors to experience what life was like on the home front and in military camps during the American Civil War. Visitors will learn about the significance of the Battle of St. Johns Bluff and the role Jacksonville played in the war.
“Thunder on the River tells the story of the Civil War in this area by making it come alive for park visitors" says Superintendent Chris Hughes.
Cannon firings will take place every hour on the hour between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Musket firing demonstrations will be held on the half hour.
