On March 19, 2020, Douglas Smith, Senior Wildlife Biologist at Yellowstone National Park, was scheduled to talk at the Lovell Visitor Center. The Earth Day celebration was scheduled to continue on April 9 with a panel discussion facilitated by David Peck, Editor of the Lovell Chronicle. However, due to concerns over COVID-19, Coronavirus, the park will be postponing these programs until the fall. Johnny Tim Yellowtail was also scheduled to give a presentation titled ‘History of Crow Fair.’ That program will also be postponed. Programming beyond April 11, 2020 will continue to be evaluated. To help guide the National Park Service operational response to the novel (new) coronavirus (COVID-19), the NPS Office of Public Health and the U.S. Public Health Service officers assigned to the NPS are closely monitoring the situation and keeping staff informed. They are relying on the most updated data and information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Office of Personnel and Management (OPM), state and local public health authorities, and coordinating with the DOI Office of Emergency Management.

Bighorn Canyon remains open. The park is increasing cleaning procedures, but may be closing some comfort stations in the park due to vandalism and theft of supplies. The NPS is focused on ensuring employees, their families, volunteers, and visitors are safe by following the most current guidance from the CDC, OPM, OEM, and other federal, state, and local health authorities. Some employees will be teleworking.
