Steamtown National Historic Site Announces Update on Rail Excursions and Special Activities

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 2, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

SCRANTON, Pa. - Due to the closure of Steamtown NHS in response to the COVID-19 restrictions, rail excursions scheduled through July 4, 2020 are cancelled. This includes the cancellation of all Railfest activities scheduled for June 13 and14 (the park looks forward to hosting Railfest in 2021).

In order to meet Federal Railroad Administration regulations for train operations, park staff will need eight to twelve weeks to become fully operational after a re-opening date is determined. Depending on future state, local and CDC guidance, additional Steamtown NHS rail excursion and special event cancellations may be required. Additionally, start dates for Scranton Limited and Nay Aug Limited short train rides are also delayed due to the present uncertainty on when the park will re-open.
