BARTLETT COVE, AK - Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is announcing additional modifications to operations to support federal, state, and local efforts to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
In response to Alaska State Mandate 18 and the easing of intrastate quarantine restrictions by the City of Gustavus, National Park Service (NPS) officials at Glacier Bay are lifting Bartlett Cove public use dock restrictions for vessels. Other services in Bartlett Cove remain limited.
In keeping with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as City of Gustavus guidelines, dock users in Bartlett Cove are required to practice social distancing and to wear face coverings when in proximity to others not of the same household or vessel.
The Visitor Information Station near the dock in Bartlett Cove is open daily with staff available to issue backcountry camper permits, as well as answer questions. Park staff are following new procedures informed by CDC guidelines to minimize contact between and among rangers, visitors, different visitor groups, and the adjoining local community.
Private boater permits are required to enter the bay between June 1 and August 31 and information on how to obtain a permit is available at the park website. Potable water is available at the Public Use Dock. However, vessel sewage pumpout at the Fuel Dock will not be operating this season. The status of fuel sales remains unknown at this time. If contemplating a visit to a national park during this pandemic, the NPS asks visitors to adhere to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state and local public health authorities to protect visitors and employees. As services are limited, the NPS urges visitors to continue to practice Leave No Trace principles, including pack-in and pack-out, to keep outdoor spaces safer and healthier.
