A Lake Mead National Recreation Area employee was operating the loader when the front end began slipping into the water. The employee was able to safely evacuate the loader before it submerged. No bystanders were hurt.

The equipment is currently stuck on the courtesy dock cables under 20-30 feet of water. For everyone’s safety please stay away from the area. The South Cove launch ramp will remain closed until further notice. The National Park Service is investigating the accident and working to mitigate the hazards associated with this incident.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area is the only national park minutes from Las Vegas that offers Joshua trees, slot canyons and night skies illuminated by the Milky Way. The park’s rocks are as red as fire and the mountains are purple majesties.
