Fort Monroe National Monument Seeks Proposals for Adaptive Use of Beach Club

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 8, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Fort Monroe, Virginia - The National Park Service (NPS) at Fort Monroe National Monument has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for adaptive use of the beach club. The RFP allows interested parties to submit their concept(s) of potential future adaptive use, considering the park’s purpose. The building is 23,352 sq. ft. and located at 490 Fenwick Rd in Fort Monroe, VA. In addition to the building, there is a swimming pool, an outdoor concession area and approximately 1,100 feet of beach frontage. The potential adaptive reuse is a great opportunity to partner with the National Park Service.

Copies of the RFP are available for download online.

The NPS provides for leasing of historic as well as non-historic properties in park areas around the country. A lease authorizes any activity not permitted by a concessions contract

or commercial use authorization. All leases must provide for fair market value rent as determined by an appraisal. Reinvested net income funds:

• Historic preservation projects

• Capital improvements of the historic properties

• Park infrastructure

• Maintenance Backlog

A pre-submittal open house will take place at the beach club on August 6th from 10:30 am-3:00 pm. The park’s business manager will be available for property tours and questions during the open house, which will be a come-and-go format. For more information e-mail us at the business office.
