Jewel Cave Announces Off-Season Hours for Winter 2021

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 26, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Jewel Cave National Monument announces its off-season hours beginning Sunday, September 26th. The monument will be closed on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, and open Wednesdays-Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. These hours will be in effect throughout the winter.

The monument partners with the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association, which operates a Park Store inside the visitor center. The store will also remain open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays and provides visitors with multiple products and services to complement their visit. Days the monument is closed one can purchase Park Store items at their website: https://blackhillsparks.org/product-category/jewel-cave-n-m-store/

On open days hikers will have access to the one-quarter-mile Roof Trail, an easy walking path around the visitor center. The Canyons Trail offers a 3.5-mile meandering trek through Lithograph and Hell Canyons, eventually passing through the Historic Area and then back to the visitor center. Both trails currently offer opportunities to view wildlife such as whitetail deer, mule deer, and bighorn sheep. A modified Discovery Tour in Jewel Cave will continue to be offered into October, and further information on the last date for cave tours this season will be released at a date in the near future.
