11-21 Reading Ranger Storytime: Monarchs!

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Oct. 29, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

CHEYENNE, Oklahoma: Bring the family and join a park ranger at Minnie Slief Memorial Library for free storytelling & a craft. For the month of November, kids will learn about monarch butterflies with "Gotta Go! Gotta Go!" by Sam Swope, a story about a monarch caterpillar and her quest to go to Mexico.

The accompanying activity is to make squish paint butterflies. If you look outside in the fall, not all the orange things you see are leaves. Some may be monarch butterflies. Many monarchs make their way through Oklahoma to their wintering grounds in Mexico. Future Reading Ranger Events will be held on the second Thursday (Sayre Library), the second Saturday (Gallery@112 Sayre), and third Thursday (Elk City) of the month.

Cannot make the Reading Ranger in person? Check our park Facebook page for a Virtual Monarchs Reading Ranger Program.
