The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 6, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - An early morning vehicle accident at the entrance of Padre Island National Seashore caused damage to an entrance booth. Before sunrise, a southbound vehicle stuck the entrance booth on the west side of the road at the national seashore entrance. The individual involved with the accident was transported to the hospital and has since been released. An accident investigation is currently underway.

When approaching the national seashore, please be aware of the drop in speed limit from 60 mph on the county road to 45 mph within the park boundaries. As vehicles approach the entrance booth, located approximately one mile from the north boundary of the seashore, be aware of several speed humps as the speed limit drops to 15 mph. Moving through the concrete planters south toward the entrance booths, the speed limit drops to 5 mph before vehicles encounter a stop sign.

For more info about traveling safely through the national seashore, visit the park’s website (www.nps.gov/pais).
