MENTOR, OHIO-As of Jan. 1, 2022, James A. Garfield National Historic Site will no longer charge a $10 fee for the guided tour of the Garfield home, which is the only way to see the home’s interior. Due to ongoing safety measures related to COVID-19, guided tours remain limited to one per hour for a maximum of seven people. Reservations are required and may be made by calling the site at (440) 255-8722.
Also beginning Jan. 1, the site will no longer sell America the Beautiful Senior Annual, Senior Lifetime, or Annual federal recreation passes. These will remain available at James A. Garfield National Historic Site only through the end of 2021. Beginning in 2022, those wishing to purchase any of these passes may visit https://store.usgs.gov/pass to buy a pass online. James A. Garfield National Historic Site will continue offering the free Access, Fourth Grade, and Military/Gold Star Family passes in 2022 and beyond.
“Eliminating our entrance fee makes visiting James A. Garfield National Historic Site free for all," said Site Manager Todd Arrington. “Directing visitors to the online platform for pass sales will save them time in travel driving to a physical location to buy a pass in person. Online pass sales also provide greater availability for our visitors to obtain passes during the winter season when our hours are limited."
For the holiday season, James A. Garfield NHS is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday-Sunday, December 17-19; Sunday, December 26; and Sunday, January 2. The site will be closed Friday-Saturday, December 24-25 and Friday-Saturday, December 31-January 1.
