Help Butterflies and Bees in Study at Fossil Butte National Monument

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 15. It is reproduced in full below.

Pollinators have been in decline for the last several years. Researchers are interested in collecting data in the area to better understand the pollinators that are here and how quickly their numbers are declining. In 2010 a bumblebee was found in Fossil Butte National Monument that was only known from Boise, ID and further west. You could be part of exciting discoveries like this by volunteering to help collect data at the monument or from your own backyard.

Join monument staff on Wednesday June 22, 2022 at 2 pm at the Fossil Butte Visitor Center to learn how to catch and identify pollinators as part of an official study. The Wyoming Range is one of the least-studied areas for pollinators. Come help change that and expand the knowledge of pollinators in Lincoln County.
