Calabro: Artist 'residency will help promote stewardship and provide a new perspective of public lands'

The Bureau of Land Management's Canyon Country District in Utah now has an artist-in-residence, H. Walck, the artist who creates as Pine Bones.

Walk, whose works include the illustrations "Be Who You Need," "National Park After Dark" and "The Immortals Gently Awaken," is the district's first artist-in-residence, according to an Oct. 3 BLM news release. Her residency is expected to last three weeks.

"Through this program, we hope to inspire and educate the public about the unique resources within the Canyon Country District," BLM Canyon Country District Artist-in-Residence Coordinator Shannon Calabro said in the news release. "We are excited to work with Walck and believe the work during this residency will help promote stewardship and provide a new perspective of public lands."

"I am driven to use my abilities to bring environmental protection, awareness and conservation to the forefront of public discussions," Pine Bones said in the news release. "During this residency, I will focus on the water's role in the complex and unique canyon country ecosystem. I hope to see you out on the land."

Members of the public will have an opportunity to visit with Pine Bones 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 15 at Grandstaff Canyon at Morning Glory Arch and 11:30 am.-4 p.m Oct. 22 at the Hunter Canyon Trailhead, according to the release. Any updates or changes to Pine Bones' residency will be announced on the BLM Canyon Country District Facebook page. The residency will culminate with a public presentation or display, and details will be posted on the Facebook page once finalized.

This is the first artist in residence to be hosted by the Moab Field Office and the Canyon Country District, according to the release. To learn more about the program, visit the BLM Canyon Country District Artist in Residence website.
