Department of Energy Issues Request for Pre-Applications to U.S. Universities for Nuclear Energy - Related Research and Development Proposals

The following press release was published by the U.S. Dept. of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy on Oct. 27, 2010. It is reproduced in full below.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy University Programs (NEUP) is now accepting pre-applications from universities interested in conducting nuclear energy- related research and development (R&D) projects.

NEUP components covered by this Request for Pre-Applications (RPA) are Program Supporting and Mission Supporting R&D in the areas of Fuel Cycle Research and Development (FCR&D), Reactor Concepts (RC) and Nuclear Energy Enabling Technologies (NEET). This RPA includes a set of mandatory requirements and evaluation criteria that will be used to select a set of applicants who will be invited to provide full proposals in response to a subsequent Request for Proposals. DOE anticipates notifying RPA applicants of the review results in February 2011.

DOE expects to fund approximately $43 million in program and mission supporting research through the NEUP in fiscal year (FY) 2011. The maximum project award for FY 2011 is planned to be $1.2 million for up to three years.

Research and development pre-applications are due December 8, 2010, and must be submitted using the online NEUP submittal application.
