The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE) Funding Opportunity Announcement Informational Webinar" on Tuesday, August 5, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The webinar will focus on the Energy Department’s $31 million funding solicitation to establish the initial phases of a field laboratory dedicated to cutting-edge research on enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). As part of the webinar, the Energy Department will provide potential FORGE funding opportunity announcement (FOA) applicants with an overview of the FOA’s objectives, info on the application process, and details of the evaluation and selection process. The webinar will be hosted by Lauren Boyd, EGS Program Manager at the Energy Department, and members of the FORGE procurement team, who will answer questions from participants.

August 5: Live Webcast on National Energy Literacy Virtual Town Hall

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled “National Energy Literacy Virtual Town Hall" on Tuesday, August 5, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. This webinar will feature a conversation about nationwide efforts to address energy illiteracy through the Department of Energy's Energy Literacy Framework. The webinar will consist of presentations highlighting national, new media, and local efforts using e-books, experiential curriculum, and best practices in energy education. Attendees will also learn about resources to help shape the teaching and learning of energy topics. The goal of this webinar is to share resources for energy education and provide attendees with opportunities to connect. Attendees may include teachers, administrators, science or STEM coordinators, and anyone else interested in energy education.

As part of the webinar, Better Buildings Challenge education partners will describe how they are achieving their energy goals by deploying energy management programs. Participants will also hear how partners demonstrated progress last year, including percent improvement and cumulative savings across school districts, colleges and universities.

The Energy Department’s Office of Indian Energy, Tribal Energy Program, and Western Area Power Administration will present a live webinar titled “Project Implementation and Operations & Maintenance" on Friday, August 8, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The webinar, part of the Tribal Renewable Energy Series, will focus on the last two steps of a five-step energy project development framework and cover key considerations for Tribes that are implementing, operating, and maintaining renewable energy projects. Speakers include Chris Gaul, Tom Harris, and Robi Robichaud from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and David Nahai, President of David Nahai Consulting Services, LLC.

August 12: Live Webcast on Propane Vehicle Fueling Infrastructure Costs

The Energy Department’s Clean Cities program will present a live webcast titled “Costs Associated with Propane Vehicle Fueling Infrastructure" on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm Eastern Daylight Time. The webcast will provide an overview of how fleets can estimate the cost to install fueling infrastructure for vehicles that run on propane. Curtis Donaldson from CleanFUEL USA will discuss key components of a propane station, how a propane station works, and factors that affect the cost. Ron Latko, retired Mesa Public Schools Director of Transportation and current independent consultant, will share his experience bringing 90 propane school buses and three propane fueling stations to the fleet.

June 24: Live Webinar on Hydrogen Fueling for Current and Anticipated Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles

The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled "Hydrogen Fueling for Current and Anticipated Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles" on Tuesday, June 24. The webinar features representatives from the California Energy Commission discussing their recently announced Notice of Proposed Award for 28 hydrogen fueling stations, the evaluation criteria they used, and a variety of related competitions. In addition, representatives from Argonne National Laboratory discuss a new tool for estimating the economic impacts of hydrogen infrastructure for early market fuel cell electric vehicles. The tool, titled JOBS and economic impacts of Hydrogen (JOBS H2), estimates the jobs, earnings, and economic output created by deploying hydrogen fueling stations.

The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled "Energy 101-Energy in the Classroom" on Thursday, June 26. The webinar focuses on best practices and resources in teaching energy in the first two years of post-secondary education. The webinar is the first part of the Energy 101 Dialogue Series, which aims to identify best practices for teaching energy in the post-secondary setting, to amplify those best practices, and to support the creation of a community of practice of energy education experts.
