Crews Complete SPRU Building Demolition

The following press release was published by the U.S. Dept. of Energy, Office of Environmental Management on June 12, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. - EM and its cleanup contractor AECOM safely accomplished the final phase of building demolition for Buildings H2 and G2 at the Separations Process Research Unit last month. Collocated at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, the SPRU buildings supported research conducted in the 1950s into chemical processes for separating plutonium and uranium from irradiated materials. What remains to the cleanup is debris and contaminated soil removal, verification that cleanup objectives are met, and backfilling the building footprints. All work is expected to be completed this fall.
