On December 9, 2021, Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm announced Patricia A. Hoffman, Acting Assistant Secretary of the Office of Electricity (OE), as one of five U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) executives selected to receive a 2021 Meritorious Executive Presidential Rank Award.

Each year, the President recognizes and celebrates a small group of career Senior Executives and senior career employees with the Presidential Rank Award. Recipients of this prestigious award are strong leaders, professionals, and scientists who achieve results and consistently demonstrate strength, integrity, and a relentless commitment to excellence in public service.

Acting Assistant Secretary Hoffman provides leadership to ensure that the Nation’s energy delivery system is secure, resilient, and reliable. She cultivates the strategic vision of OE, leading them to develop new technologies to improve the critical electric infrastructure that brings electricity into homes, offices, and factories, while advising on federal and state electricity policies and programs that shape system planning and market operations.

During her twenty-six-year career with DOE, Acting Assistant Secretary Hoffman has attained an exceptional record of achieving high-quality outcomes across the DOE enterprise. Most recently, Acting Assistant Secretary Hoffman contributed to DOE’s unified response to the COVID-19 pandemic, for which she was recognized with a 2020 Secretary of Energy Achievement Award.
