Cincinnati - Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded two non-competitive financial assistance renewal awards totaling approximately $12 million to the New Mexico Environment Department, and the New Mexico Energy, Minerals & Natural Resources Department. The details for each renewal are:
1) New Mexico Energy, Minerals & Natural Resources Department: Under the “New Mexico Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Transportation Safety Program" award, the State of New Mexico will continue to provide planning and preparations for the safe and uneventful transportation of radioactive waste in and through the state of New Mexico. The total estimate value of the grant is $6.2 million for five years.
2) New Mexico Environment Department. Under the “Environmental Oversight, Monitoring and Evaluation of Activities Conducted at U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Facilities" award, the State of New Mexico will continue to provide oversight of DOE’s waste management activities and permitting. The total estimated value of the grant is $6 million for five years.
Both renewal awards have a period of performance from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2027, and a combined total of $12.2 million for the State of New Mexico.
