The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on Oct. 19. It is reproduced in full below.

AUBURN, Calif. - On Friday, Oct. 21, Reclamation will expand fuels and vegetation management activities in the Auburn State Recreation Area. The work is part of a new $1 million contract to Wildfire Services located in Windsor to reduce wildfire threats consistent with Reclamation’s Five-Year Fuels Management Plan for Auburn Project Land.

The contract is a new tool for Reclamation to address wildfire risks in the area and augments the fuel management activities already in motion. The contractor will use hand crews and herbicide applications to treat vegetated areas to reduce the potential for wildfire. The work will compliment and expand on nearby fuel reduction projects that began last year that are also part of the Five-Year Fuels Management Plan for Auburn Project Land. The management actions identified in the plan treats land in the communities of: Auburn, Cool-Pilot Hill, Auburn Lake Trails, Georgetown-Greenwood, Todd Valley, King Hill, Applegate, and Monte Verde Estates. The work will extend over multiple years. No recreational trail closures are expected to occur during the fuels management work.
