Burlington, VA - On Oct. 10, 2019, Christopher Edwards, 31, was arrested in South Burlington, VT when located by members of the United States Marshals Service at the University Mall.
Edwards was released from jail in August of 2019. When Edwards was released, a warning was distributed to the public that he would likely reoffend. On October 4, 2019, Edwards violated his conditions of release by cutting his ankle monitor off. Once Edwards removed his ankle monitor, his whereabouts were unknown as he was actively avoiding apprehension. A Vermont Department of Corrections Commissioner’s warrant was issued for his arrest on October 8th. The U.S. Marshals Service was asked by the DOC to locate and arrest Edwards on October 10th.
Edwards has an extensive and violent criminal history that includes convictions for Sexual Assault on a Victim Less than 16 years old, Possession of Heroin, Burglary and multiple Probation Violations. The Sex Offender Registry in VT has determined that Edwards is a lifetime noncompliant high-risk sex offender who will be required to register as such for the duration of his life.
The U.S. Marshals discovered Edwards’ vehicle located in a parking spot at the University Mall. Upon attempting to make the arrest, Edwards attempted to run by using his vehicle as a means of escape. This caused damage to two U.S. Marshals vehicles as well as Edwards’ vehicle. Once Edwards’ vehicle was disabled, he attempted to flee on foot and was wrangled to the ground by Deputy U.S. Marshals.
Following the arrest, Edwards was transported to Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility and lodged on the warrant. Please refer all questions regarding this case to the Vermont Department of Corrections.
