Quarterly Services Survey 2021 Seasonal Expansion Released

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Census Bureau on March 12, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

The U.S. Census Bureau today released the fourth quarter 2020 report of the Quarterly Services Survey (QSS) including seasonal adjustments for an additional 26 series. Seasonally adjusted estimates will be provided for all quarters for which unadjusted estimates are available. QSS is the only economic indicator providing timely estimates of revenue and expenses for selected service industries.

The 2021 expansion introduces seasonally adjusted revenue estimates for selected industries within the following sectors and subsectors:

* 48-49: Transportation and Warehousing

* 51: Information

* 54: Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services

* 61: Educational Services

* 721: Accommodation

* 81: Other Services (except Public Administration)

You can access the dataon Table 1a of the press release and from our time series database at . Seasonal adjustment is important because seasonal patterns can mask underlying economic conditions. Seasonal adjustment produces data in which the values of neighboring quarters are usually easier to compare.
