The U.S. Census Bureau today released a summary brief for the 2019 Annual Capital Expenditures Survey (ACES) highlighting the industries with the largest total capital expenditures for structures and equipment for companies with employees in 2019. Data are based on the 2012 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).
The ACES provides the only comprehensive estimates of annual U.S. capital expenditures data covering all domestic nonfarm businesses and detailing investments by type and industry. These statistics are important for federal agencies constructing composite national economic measures, such as the Bureau of Economic Analysis’ estimates of private-fixed investments, a major component of the gross domestic product; Bureau of Labor Statistics’ estimates of capital stocks for productivity analysis; and the Federal Reserve Board’s Flow of Funds accounts.
