Late this afternoon, members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Taben Armstead, 20. Armstead was wanted by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault.

On June 12, 2021, 28-year-old David N. Hughson IV was shot to death at the King’s Creek Apartments on West Common St. NE.  Over the past year, members of the Stark County Sheriff’s Office investigated the shooting death of Mr. Hughson.  Based on that investigation a warrant was issued for the arrest of Armstead earlier today.  The warrant was turned over to the NOVFTF and within hours of the warrant being issued the task force had Armstead in custody.  He was located and arrested in the 1800 block of Southway St. SW in Massillon without incident.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “The Stark County Sheriff’s Office never gave up on this case and their diligent work led to the suspect being identified.  Due to the close working relationship between the Sheriff’s Office in Stark County and the NOVFTF an arrest was able to be made the same day the warrant was issued.  Community members in the Canton area are safer now knowing a homicide suspect is off their streets.”
