The U.S. Department of Commerce said the country looks forward to working in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity in its December meetings.
The statement was shared after the Australian government’s announcement of the first round of in-person negotiations for the IPEF, to be held Dec. 10-15 in Brisbane.
“We look forward to building on the foundation that the United States and its 13 partners established during the first in-person ministerial meeting of the Indo-Pacific Framework for Prosperity in September,” The Department of Commerce said in the release.
The IPEF partners and the U.S. share a vision of creating a high-standard, inclusive framework to lift each nation’s economies by improving labor conditions, promoting sustainability and creating economic opportunities, the release reported.
An opportunity is presented through the first round of negotiations to make meaningful progress toward reaching that vision, the Commerce Department said in the release.
“We are excited by the prospect of what we can accomplish together and thank the Australian government for hosting this first negotiating round for IPEF,” the release said.
