Neal Statement On Nomination Of Danny Werfel To Be Irs Commissioner

Ways and Means Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after President Biden announced his intent to nominate Danny Werfel to be Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS):

“I welcome the nomination of Danny Werfel to serve as Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service. Democrats delivered the resources necessary for the IRS to usher in a new era of tax administration, and improving the taxpayer experience requires a strong leader.

Mr. Werfel will be charged with fulfilling the promise of the Inflation Reduction Act, and finally doing away with our two-tiered tax system that has allowed the wealthy and well-connected to follow one set of rules while everyone else follows another. Guided by his prior IRS and private sector experience, he will be able to hit the ground running, and I look forward to working with him.

This nomination is critical to the nation’s faith and trust in the IRS, and I urge the Senate to take this up as soon as possible.”
