The Bureau of Land Management is planning prescribed burns on slash piles at several locations in the Kremmling Field Office between Nov. 28, 2022, and March 30, 2023.
Prescribed burns reduce hazardous fuels near residences, improve range conditions, and reduces catastrophic wildfire risk. Slash piles include an accumulation of woody debris from brush or trees. The BLM only burns slash piles when a minimum of three inches of snow is on the ground and weather conditions allow for safe, effective burn with good smoke dispersal. The number of days to complete each area may vary.
Burns are expected in the following areas:
- 10 Mile slash piles south of Granby on Highway 40 near mile marker 218. This burn should be completed within 2-4 days after ignition and smoke may be visible from Granby and Tabernash.
- Mule Creek slash piles south of Parshall on Grand County Road 3. Smoke maybe visible from Parshall and the burns should be complete this year.
- Strawberry slash piles north of Tabernash in Grand County. This will be an ongoing project that will take several winters to complete. Smoke may be visible from Granby, Tabernash, Fraser, and U.S. 40.
- Gore Lakes slash piles northwest of Kremmling in Grand County. This will be an ongoing project that will take several winters to complete. Smoke may be visible from Kremmling as well as U.S. 40 and HWY 134.
- Sheep Mountain slash piles east of Tabernash above YMCA of the Rockies-Snow Mountain Ranch in Grand County. This will be an ongoing project that will take several winters to complete. Smoke may be visible from Granby, Tabernash, Fraser, and U.S. 40
