Ways and Means Committee Chairman and Co-Chair of the Congressional Friends of Ireland Caucus Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after UK Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Chris Heaton-Harris introduced legislation to extend the deadline for the Northern Ireland political parties to form a government in Stormont:
“The people of Northern Ireland made their voices heard back in May, and as with any fair and free election, the will of the people is the most important outcome. This legislation gives the political parties at Stormont more time to come together, honor that will, and do what’s right for the people. Shared governance is better than no governance, and it’s past time to get Stormont up and running.”
