BOSTON - Transportation Security Administration officers at Logan International Airport (BOS) discovered a loaded firearm at the security checkpoint Monday, Aug. 7. This is the second firearm discovered at BOS in less than a week (another firearm was detected Aug. 2).
At approximately 8:45 a.m. Aug. 7, a loaded.380 caliber Kel-Tec pistol was discovered by TSA in a Pittsburgh-bound passenger’s carry-on luggage. The loaded firearm had one bullet chambered and three additional loaded magazines. When discovered, TSA immediately notified Massachusetts State Police who responded to the checkpoint and arrested the 36-year-old male passenger.
“Dangerous and prohibited items can cause delays at the security checkpoint," said TSA Spokesperson Michael McCarthy. “Passengers are solely responsible for the contents of their luggage and should double-check all bags before arriving at the airport to avoid such incidents."
In addition to potential criminal charges, passengers who bring firearms to a checkpoint face civil penalties from TSA. This is the fifth firearm detected in carry-on luggage at BOS in 2017.
