Mobile District Employees Supporting New Mexico Fire Response

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District has deployed five employees in support of the rebuild from the New Mexico wildfires that occurred during the spring of 2022.

The Mobile District is working in partnership with the local, state, and federal response teams managing debris removal contracts. The debris contract is to remove the remnants of all eligible burned structures, vehicles, and hazard trees.

USACE’s Baltimore District is the lead on this mission, Mobile District Employees Brent Mortimer, Russell Blount, Hunter Stanley, Ernest Noe, and Kevin Nazario volunteered for the wildfire response as Quality Assurance Specialists (QA) and Quality Assurance Supervisors (QAS) to close out the mission.

“We observe the site as a back check on all the contractors. In addition to ensuring the contractors are doing the work in accordance with the contract, we send daily reports to the Mission Manager on the progress of each site.” Said Brent Mortimer, Environmental Compliance Coordinator, Mobile District

The devastating wildfires were the largest in New Mexico’s history — swept through the northern part of the state during spring and early summer this year.

“Wildfires that create wide-scale damage requires a wide scale response for recovery,” said Mortimer. “To be able to help this community, even in a small way, this is the reason that I enjoy working for USACE. We can help people and do something impactful.”
