The Department of Commerce announced Wyoming has obtained its first grants through the Internet for All initiative to deploy high-speed internet and training programs for digital skills.
Wyoming was granted nearly $5.5 million to accomplish this in funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, according to a Dec. 20 news release.
“Bridging the digital divide will ensure equitable access to virtual healthcare services and educational opportunities for all people in the state of Wyoming. I commend Governor Gordon for his support of Internet for All initiatives,” Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said, according to the release.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allocated $65 million toward the expansion of affordable, reliable, fast Internet across the U.S., the release reported. One of the aims of the law is to crease more low-cost opportunities for high-speed internet, in particular in underserved communities.
The Federal Communications Commission’s Affordable Connectivity Program provides a $30 discount monthly in internet services for qualifying households, the release reported. If applicants to the program reside in qualifying Tribal lands, then this discount can be up to $75 dollars monthly.
