Zachary Ormsby, who has worked in the natural resource management field for almost two decades, has been named the new Central Coast field manager for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
According to a Dec. 21 news release, Ormsby will be responsible for overseeing the management of public lands including the Cotoni-Coast Dairies Unit of the California Coastal National Monument and the Fort Ord National Monument.
“The BLM Central Coast Field Office manages a breathtaking array of resources; I am looking forward to working on a variety of landscapes, hearing from the public, and serving in the community,” Ormsby said in the release. “We have a dedicated staff that is committed to keeping public lands healthy, productive and accessible.”
Ormsby has a B.A.S. in Anthropology from the University of San Diego and a Master of Science in Natural Resource Planning, Policy, and Stakeholder engagement by the University of Nevada-Reno, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has worked at the Bureau of Land Management for two years in various positions, including two years in Nevada as the National Monuments and National Conservation Lands Specialist. He has held various other positions in other organizations, as well.
As stated in the release, Ormsby enjoys activities that enable him to be outside on public lands including hiking, snowboarding and birdwatching. He spent a lot of summers in Santa Cruz with family, and loves cooking, traveling and taking photos.
“I am excited about the selection of Zachary as the next BLM Central Coast Field Manager,” Central California District Manager Chris Heppe said in the release. “He will bring a diverse range of experiences and collaborative leadership to the field manager position.”
