The U.S. National Park Service announced Fermin Salas is the superintendent of Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument in New Mexico.
Salas has worked with the National Park Service since 1976, when he worked at Yosemite National Park as an interpretive ranger. After that, he worked at a variety of sites, including the following national parks: The Grand Canyon, Virgin Islands, and Guadalupe Mountains. He has also worked at several national monuments, and for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Larimer County, in Colorado.
Gila is happy about the opportunity to bring Fermin's skill set to its company.
“I am pleased to welcome Fermin into the superintendent role at Gila Cliff Dwellings," Acting Regional Director Lisa Carrico said in the release. "He has a varied and extensive background in community outreach, park operations and law enforcement and will be a great fit to lead the team at the park.”
The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument was established in 1907 and expanded in 1962, the NPS website reported. It is approximately 533 acres.
